Let me introduce myself. My name is Katie Patterson and I am a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach as well as a classically trained pastry chef. My own journey to finding a healthy lifestyle has taken years and led me down many paths. I was the teenage girl struggling with social pressures, self-esteem and body issues. I have been an anxious bride, worried about fitting into my dream dress and struggling with the pressure to create the perfect wedding. I continue to be the sometimes overwhelmed (single) mom who can feel exhausted after years of caring for everyone else and not prioritizing my own health. And most recently I am the breast cancer survivor, on the other side of my battle, forever changed and learning how to step into a brand new chapter of my life. I see you. I have been you, and I can help to guide you through your journey too.
Your health is comprised of more than what you put on your plate and in your body. It's your relationships, your career, the level of stress in your life, your physical activity, and so much more. It's the Circle of Life and it is constantly changing. The key is to be able to recognize when one or more areas of your life is out of balance and to learn the small steps to take in order to get back on track. There is freedom in letting go of all of the nutritional myths and wellness fads and realizing that health is way of life, made up of choices. Discovering the right choices for you can be life changing. If you choose to prioritize the foods, activities, goals and relationships that are best for you most of the time, it allows room for those days you may want to opt for the piece of cake over the fruit and a day of bingeing Netflix over a workout. It's about progress, not perfection, and that is more than ok.
Because everyone's health is bio-individual, no two coaching packages will be exactly the same. Your program will be tailored to your needs and goals, and will be led by you. As an IIN Health Coach I won't prescribe a diet or a workout plan, but help you figure out for yourself what foods, movement and wellness practices best fit into your life. For some people, it can be as simple as drinking more water and going on a daily walk to get the added benefit of Vitamin D. For others it can be introducing new foods into your repertoire and learning how to shop for and prepare healthy meals. And yet others can benefit from learning to meditate and take time to be still. Whatever your needs are, I will be your guide on the side, motivating you and providing accountability to keep you striving towards your goals.
Some may say that a pastry chef becoming a health coach is hypocritical and contradictory. After all, as a pastry chef I make decadent desserts with all of the ingredients a health coach might say are a hard no. Honestly, I don't believe that to be true. No food, unless in the case of an allergy, has to be forbidden. The key is moderation and balancing the not so healthy with better choices. Everyone deserves a treat every once in a while. That's why I will periodically share recipes here for healthier versions of some of my favorite pastries and savory foods. I love to be in the kitchen and make people happy with my creations. It adds to my joy, which in turn helps to make me a happier person. And that's what it is all about - finding what lights you up and leaning into it. So yes, I am the Pastry Chef Health Coach, and I will show you how you too can have your cake ... and eat it too. XO
